Launched in 2008, the Helix3D hip joint system set new standards for safety, dynamics and comfort and redefined mobility for people with a hip disarticulation or hemipelvectomy.

  • The patented multi-axis joint structure produces a three-dimensional hip movement to compensate for pelvic rotation and promotes a symmetrical and natural gait pattern.
  • A spring-hydraulic combination controls movements in the stance and swing phase.
  • Integrated expansion springs make it easier to initiate the swing phase. This partially compensates for the missing hip musculature, reducing the effort required for walking.
  • The user’s foot placement in the stance phase is dampened and controlled.
  • As the stride length is individually adjustable, the pendulum movement in the swing phase can be controlled.
  • The joint design ensures optimal sitting characteristics and reduces pelvic obliquity to a minimum.

The spring-hydraulics combination controls the 3D motion during the entire gait cycle and allows for dampened, controlled heel strike in the stance phase with significantly reduced hyperlordosis as well as smooth hip joint extension. Controlled and smooth rollover on the prosthesis under full load becomes possible. The spring-hydraulics combination also allows for an individual stride length setting, and makes it possible to control the pendulum motion in the swing phase.
